Microsoft Bidding for Yahoo

A new wrinkle in Microsoft’s quest to topple Google in the search game.  Microsoft has made an unsolicited bid for Yahoo to the tune of $44.6 billion.

Yahoo, the once dominant search engine has been struggling of late, unable to match Google. Microsoft is offering $31 per share for Yahoo, a sixty-two percent premium to Yahoo’s closing price on Thursday, yet less than its fifty-two week high of just over $34.

Yahoo issued a brief statement saying it would carefully and promptly study the bid. My guess is they are looking for a way to fend off Microsoft, or if need be, in search of a white knight.

Of course, another option would to go back to letting Google run its search engine like it once did.
